The Yachtsman
Channeling 1950's tiki-modernism, the Yachstman utilizes kitsch objects and exotic materials. Given a bar that hadn’t been updated in decades, the interior was stripped to its bare essentials, revealing original details like tin ceilings and walls. Architectural elements like the triple A-frame back bar and the exaggerated window jambs set a geometric rhythm that resonates throughout the space. Combinations of bamboo and tropical thatchings create hut like nooks to accommodate the custom fabricated benches and wooden barrel tables. Mis-matched lighting fixtures were sourced along with a fleet of mismatched barstools to complete its charismatic-look. A giant tiki head sculpture and a Caribbean sunset mural were commissioned to give the space an added layer of handmade detail.
